Should I stop teaching art at the School of Fine Arts because of behavior, unsupportive staff, documentation, and - pay.?
Me have been teaching art in a public art school in downtown for 4 years. I love my advanced art students, but I also "teach" every student in school. Basically, it's just babysitting. I try to teach, but they throw chairs, and struggle, and discussed between them and me. I spend my own money supplies and are ungrateful and destroy them, I work 6 hours after school on paperwork, so students work at a level far above others in my neighborhood and I always receive a high ranking on my observations. I am debating quitting because I'm hating right now. I feel depressed every day when I go in, I feel appreciated by the principal and students, and I'm tired of not having enough money to pay my bills. I teach children who want to learn, but that is perhaps 20 of the 500 I see. I'm from Europe and never treated adults in how these children do, and I need advice on what to do I'm sad all the time about the situation.
It is evident that love teaching. I count on you I do not like the other stuff that goes with teaching. You have experience now, so I suggest finding another job. Most schools require all students take art in the younger age, so if you only want to work with serious artists that you will want to look at High School. To foster a love for art in children, 5.8 to do grades. Just find a different area may teach in a district or some MEAP place with good grades:). I also taught in the city for many years and although my new job is much harder (paperwork wise) I do not have to worry about behaviors and paying things out of pocket. You should not have to do that. But ultimately, find a new job. You deserve better!
