so it’s that time of year again. football season. more specifically, college football season. i never realize just how much i miss football season until those first few weeks of september arrive after a long 9 month hibernation from january through august. but i do. i really, really miss it and, after some reflection, i think that september is my favorite month of the year for this very reason. even moreso than october, the month of my birthday, or december, with the end of a semester and Christmas and all that.

i find myself spending most fall saturdays spending a good part of the day in front of the tv watching whatever games happen to be on and, of course when able, watching my Aggies. there always seem to be some really exciting games on that come down to the last second. even though i have no vested interest in most of the games on tv, i still find myself getting caught up in the excitement of them. i long for the big plays, whether they’re great catches, runs, defensive stops, big special teams plays, etc.

that’s what football is all about, i suppose. it’s not about the blowouts between the big teams and the cushy bottom feeding or even I-AA teams. it’s about coming down to the wire and those few seconds when your heart seems to stop as you wait (what sometimes seems a lifetime) for the refs hands to go up, the ball to trickle away, or a team explode in celebration.

i love everything about the game, and i dearly miss being in college and actually being a physical part of the game.
